Tiki Oasis 11 is coming up. And the news about this years content is pouring in (yes, attempt at a pun there). Among other things, there will be a daytime symposium entitled Mai-Kai History, Mystery and Adventure hosted by Tim "Swanky" Glazner.
The Mai Kai restaurant in Fort Lauderdale is the undisputed most authentic source of vintage Polynesian cocktails. Tim "Swanky" Glazner presents the history of the Mai Kai with an emphasis on cocktails such as The Mystery Bowl. The Mystery Bowl ceremony will be accurately recreated.
In 1956, the brothers Thornton took all the best from Don the Beachcomber's (sometimes literally) and added beautiful maidens in tiny outfits, all out authentic Polynesian and Nautical decor, grand tropical gardens and plopped it down in the heart of what was becoming America's vacationland. How did it work out? The same family still runs it today, much the same as then. Come hear and see the tale of how Florida took Tiki to the next level, and rediscover the oldest thriving original Tiki palace on earth! A live Mystery Ceremony by Marina the Mermaid will be raffled off during the event!
