I saw Wilko and the band in '75 in my hometown, and I can safely say it blew my 15yr old mind. They presaged punk by a good 18 months and although they signalled the end of the likes of Emerson Lake and Palmer, they could still play albeit in a brutally stripped down manner that was to me, more intriguing than their punk counterparts....their stage act was another story.
They say that everyone that saw the Velvets formed a band well, I think the same could be said of the Feelgoods back in the mid ‘70’s; indeed a few years later, my brother and I went on to form a band and got to know both Wilko and Lee; ironically, my brother Jerry was filmed playing with the original line-up as part of Temple’s documentary.
I think a lot of people have been waiting for this film; those that haven’t will wonder why they weren’t.
